Um die letzten Zeugen dieses Transportmittels f\u00fcr die Nachwelt zu erhalten, erwarb ein kleiner Kreis von Feldbahnbegeisterten im Jahre 1984 eine zur Verschrottung anstehende Diesellokomotive eines Kieswerks bei Wettringen. Als sich wenig sp\u00e4ter der Erwerb weiterer Feldbahnfahrzeuge abzeichnete, wurde die museale Bewahrung von Feldbahnen ins Auge gefasst; die Idee des &#8222;M\u00fcnsterl\u00e4ndischen Feldbahnmuseum&#8220; war geboren und 1985 durch die Gr\u00fcndung des gleichnamigen Vereins konkretisiert.
